Minutes approved. 5. Course Report – Steve Hart (See “Course Report” document attached to the Minutes email). a) Additional Comments/Notes – . Steve mentioned that the Bent Grass is filling in nicely on the greens. . Also, a Hydrometer was purchased to check the moisture levels of the greens. . No Dollar Spots have been noticed this year perhaps due to the application of “organic tea?” mixtures. . Mycelium fungus – Steve talked a little bit about this fungus that we may be seeing on the course. . Due to the extreme heat, some golf courses are reporting they have already spent more on their water bills in the last 6 months, than they have in 18 months prior (3X the normal water bill). 6. Old Business a) Out-of-Bounds Markers – Steve said this project is still ongoing, but is a very low priority. Don asked if the golf committee could help in order to speed up the process by volunteering to place markers. Steve said no. b) Junior Golf – Don mentioned that Junior Golf was canceled for the last 2 weeks due to the heat. Forecast for next 30 days does not appear to be too hot and there’s just about 30 days left in the program. c) Memorials – A lot of discussion on the possibility of using the circular flag area in front of the CA clubhouse as a memorial similar to what Steve presented last month that St. Clair Country Club has. If bricks were used, Steve said that approximately 170 nine inch bricks would fit around the circle. The sprinklers would have to be moved inward a little to accommodate the placing of the bricks. Steve gave a cost of $25 for a brick with an engraved plaque epoxied on it. Julia to investigate with Memorial Company in Wentzville as to what it would cost to have the bricks themselves engraved. Steve also estimated that there about 40 existing “tree” memorials located throughout the golf course. d) Golf Shack – Faye gave a quick update stating Jerry Knott is still working on the quotes for the exterior and the roof work. e) Hole-in-One Insurance – Brief discussion as a possibility at doing this for the CA’s Fall Golf Tournament. Tabled until spring of next year in order to have time to investigate and research the feasibility of doing it. 8. New Business a) Drop Zone on #5 – The committee asked about the possibility of a Drop Zone being established on the other side of the pond on #5. Steve is already in the process of doing it. 9. Round Table Discussions: . Don asked if a rope or some other kind of barrier can be put up on #4 between the #4 green and the pond to prevent carts from being driven through that area. Steve replied that in the fall that whole area is being changed / re-landscaped. . Millie asked Steve if he had any problems with the Thursday Morning Ladies’ League doing something with the flower box at #3 tee. Steve said not at all as long as it could be handled with regular course maintenance, i.e. insecticide sprays. . Discussion on how the sand traps are being raked in order to prevent the sand from coming up over the edge of the traps. Steve explained that his crew is trained to lift the blade on the power rake as they exit and to enter and exit at different spots periodically, so as not to compress the edges. . Discussion on the closeness of the parking of golf carts to greens. It is perfectly fine to park in the rough next to the green, but not on the collar. Motion by Buddy to adjourn and 2nd by Millie. Next meeting is August 14 at 5:30 pm.
